Why Flip Flop? We chose the title at a party at Café Europa in Vienna. In summer, the attractive bassist Philipp Moosbrugger, always dressed in an extravagant way, wears an elegant hand-sewed Turkish suit with flipflops on his feet of which he has countless different pairs and models. This always amuses us. On a sunny summer day he can flap the piece’s intro with his favourite flipflops at one of our concerts.

Here, the sound of flipflops is achieved by clapping. Cordial thanks to our ”komshi“, the percussionist Turgay Ucar for his great performance on the darbuka – a perfect blend of virtuosity and Balkan exotic! Thanks also to our other ”komshi“, ”velik profesjonalac“ Dushan Novakov who possesses an extaordinary sense for swing and the Balkan groove! The piece is conceived as a suit, but in a broader and varied form showing a large range of Bulgarian irregular measures 9/8, 8/8, 11/8. We admit that this is currently the composition with which we would promote ourselves – we would put it on our business card.
